Why Missed Call Text Back Stops Working
Missed call text back is often set up and forgotten — which means when it stops working, you might not notice for weeks. Here is how to diagnose and fix the issue.
Check 1: Is Missed Call Text Back Enabled?
GoHighLevel has a built-in Missed Call Text Back feature that can be enabled under Settings → Missed Call Text Back. This is separate from a workflow-based approach. Check whether the native feature is enabled and configured with a message. If it is disabled or the message field is empty, it will not send.
Check 2: Is Your Phone Number an LC Phone Number?
The native Missed Call Text Back feature only works with LC Phone numbers (GoHighLevel's built-in phone system). If you are using an externally connected Twilio number, the native feature will not work — you need a workflow-based approach instead.
Check 3: Is the Workflow Published and Configured Correctly?
If you built a custom missed call workflow, check that it is published. The trigger should be "Inbound Call" with a condition of "Call Status = No Answer" or "Missed". A "Call Ended" trigger will fire for all calls, not just missed ones.
Check 4: Is There a Conflict With Another Workflow?
If you have multiple workflows triggered by inbound calls, they may conflict. A contact who enters one call workflow may be excluded from another. Check all active call-related workflows and ensure they do not have overlapping triggers for the same contacts.
Check 5: Does the Caller Have a Valid Mobile Number?
Missed call text back sends an SMS to the caller. If the inbound call came from a landline, VoIP number, or a number that cannot receive SMS, the text will fail to deliver. This is not a GoHighLevel error — it is simply that the number cannot receive texts.
Check 6: A2P Registration Status
For US numbers, A2P 10DLC registration affects whether text messages are delivered reliably. If your number's A2P registration is pending or rejected, your missed call texts may not be delivering even though GoHighLevel shows them as sent.
